It was a spectacular full turnout event for visitors and the community of Wasaga Beach. The two earlier events hosted by John Nichols, former morning radio personality for The Peak 95.1 FM, allowed viewers to take in all the films and vote for their favourites. Between the showings the viewers were entertained by several dance numbers provided by Wasaga Beach "The Dance Room" and Dance By Design" dance companies with additional performances by local musicians Tyler Firestone and Fire and Sound. The event brought the Wasaga Beach Artists Group together to display their work in an impressive atmosphere of appreciation and excitement. FaceArt of Wasaga Beach created a body painting exhibit called 'Nature In The Best Of Times' featuring the art of Xan Lazaridis modeled by Maille (Moly). Maille graced the audience at the Red Carpet Gala and Awards ceremony at the opening of the Red Carpet Gala Awards event.
The Red Carpet Gala Awards took place in the Oakview Room where a tribute to Roy Wilson the Wasaga Beach Town Crier was made by Bill Frieday of Beach Booster Group. The festival entry films were aired to a full house followed by an awards and recognition ceremony. Official copies of the Second Annual Wasaga Beach Short Film Festival Poster were presented to Mayor Cal Patterson and Denise Potter, Vice-President of the Wasaga Beach Chamber of Commerce to be posted on location at the Wasaga Beach Town Hall and the Wasaga Beach Chamber of Commerce offices.
Partnership agreements were announced between the Wasaga Beach Short Film Festival and Switch Video of Collingwood and Henry's Photo Video Digital of Barrie Ontario to develop training workshops to help Wasaga Beach businesses as Advertising Video Entrants for the Third Annual WBSFF to hone their 30 second message and select the appropriate filming equipment and software to create submissions that will showcase their business as well as the beautiful natural surroundings of Wasaga beach and area.
"Just think" said Gary Cerantola, "if we have 50 businesses in Wasaga Beach that take up the training workshops and produce a video advertisement entry for the third annual Wasaga Beach Short Film Festival they will improve their business focus and can you imagine the buzz that would be created on You Tube for Wasaga Beach featuring its businesses and the great attractions our community has to offer, with the world as their audience!"
Denise Potter on behalf of the Wasaga Beach Chamber of Commerce presented an appreciation award to Gary Cerantola, Chair of the WBSFF to recognize his dedication to the festival along with presenting Exceptional Accomplishments Awards to Dianna Chycki, Juliet Clegg, Alan Clegg and Lori Crawford for their efforts in taking the second annual Wasaga Beach Short Film Festival to a higher level of achievement.
The Oakview Room opened at 6:00 p.m where guests were greeted with beautiful display of culinary delicacies provided by Taste of Paradise. Special guests were in attendance including Andre Arevalo winner of the 2012 Cannes Film Festival Firefox Flicks award along with dignitaries Dr. Kellie Leitch MP, Mayor Cal Patterson and Deputy Mayor David Foster.
Gary Cerantola a resident of Wasaga Beach and Chair of the Wasaga Beach Short Film Festival hosted the event.
